This dress was a result of my experimentation with draping my knits this year, something I had never tried before. The dress was a bit of an accident as I was intending to make rectangles to seam together and drape. After making this initial rectangle I pinned it on my dress form and thought “wow, that would make a really cute dress!”
This dress is simply two rectangles, twisted to have the wrong side of the fabric showing at the top. There are seams along the sides, underarms, and shoulders, and that’s it! The fabric naturally curls in at the sleeves and neckline finishing itself. It’s exciting thinking about the possibilities of this dress using various yarns and stitch patterns.
I made this dress plating 2 yarns together. The non-dominant yarn is a metallic yarn giving the knitted fabric some sparkle and offering an equally beautiful wrong side of the fabric. I used a different dominant yarn on the back of the dress. Because both sides of the dress are the same, you can reverse the dress to alternate the color.
The cutouts at the sides highlight the smallest part of the waist giving a flattering hourglass shape. The tassels were added for an extra element of fun, you won’t be able to resist dancing around while wearing this dress!
